T’was the night before Christmas and all through the home,
All the creatures were stirring, and restless to roam.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
The place was a wreck . . . that’s not really rare.
The children were climbing the walls in delight,
Us, parents were past ready to call it a night.
Momma with her chocolate & Dad watching sportscenter,
It was time to get ready for Santa to enter.
When up in the boys room there arose such a clatter,
I jumped from my fudge to see what was the matter.
Up the stairs I flew like a flash,
With visions of cuts, bruises & a gash.
The solemn quiet, was at first disturbing,
For the boys in penance sat silently brooding.
A foreboding feeling of dread filled their eyes,
As mom’s (realizing no one was dead) temper began to rise.
Come on Tyson, and Nicholas, Really now Evan,
You boys are sending me somewhere and it really isn’t heaven!
On Evan and Tyson, Yes, you Nicholas, too . . .
To bed now and quiet, or you will be sore rather than just blue.
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle mount to the sky.
Up on their beds the coursers they flew,
With books (and a couple toys), even Nicholas, too!
And then in a twinkling, I heard from their beds,
We love you, Mama. Was all that they said.
With the doorknob in hand, while shutting the door,
Down out of bed, Little Nicholas asking once more.
He was dressed in mix-matched pajamas from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were a little untidy, almost kaput.
His sweet little face, smiling up to meet my gaze,
Mom, can I have a drink . . . a 4year old phase.
His eyes, how they twinkled, his dimple how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
Tyson now out of his bed next to his brother,
Echoed the question, then added, “please mother.”
His cute little grin, baring none of his teeth,
Stole my annoyance away, what a little thief.
He had a mischievous look on his cute little face,
And had awoken his littlest brother, but I couldn’t get on his case.
Evan was chubby & plump, a right jolly little baby,
He’ll be an astronaut, doctor or lawyer, just maybe.
The look in his eye and the twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had lots more to dread.
They spoke not a word, but went straight for a drink,
Filling their cups, they gave each other a wink.
And laying their cups inside of the sink,
They went to the stairs, up they started to slink.
They sprang to their beds, I put the baby back, too,
Turned out the lights, they knew just want to do.
Finally all settled, I exclaimed, with the days end in sight,
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!
Lots of Love & Enjoy this amazing Christmas Season. We are all very blessed!
John, Teresa, Tyson, Nicholas & Evan!
